The Future of Farming is in Safe Hands
A drive to encourage more young people, like herself, into the agriculture sector is on reason Kahlia Fryer has been recognised at the Napier Port Primary Sector Awards.
Fryer has been awarderd the Lawson Robinson Hawke's Bay A&P Scholarship for 2015.
Fryer explains that her aim is to contribute to the agriculture industry and Hawke's Bay by encouraging as many young people as she can to consider studying agriculture because of the range of opportunities in the sector.
Fryer is studying towards her Bachelor of Commerce in Agriculture degree at Lincoln University in Canterbury. She is also President of the Lincoln University Students' Association.
Born and raised in Hawke's Bay, her roots here are deep. She is a strong advocate for agriculture in Hawke's Bay and for what the region has to offer. "There is a huge opportunity to sell Hawke's Bay as a destination that offers thriving dairy, sheep and beef, viticulture and horticulture industries that enable great career pathways to be followed as well as an amazing lifestyle where there is great weather, produce and recreational activities,' she explains.
Fryer is thrilled with the scholarship and full of praise for both sponsors of the award. She is looking at a career that brings together people management, business acumen, finance and policy within the agriculture sector. She would like to be based in Canterbury or Hawke's Bay and sees her scholarship as a testament to the commitment she has for her industry and her professional goals.
